About
PEG-MGF is a synthetic copy of the tail end of a growth factor that muscle produces after hard exercise or injury. Sellers attach polyethylene glycol to that peptide. The coating is meant to make it last longer in the body than the bare fragment does. People inject it to try to repair a specific torn or strained muscle or to grow a lagging one. It is sold as a research chemical, is not approved anywhere, and has never been given to a person in a published study. No seller publishes which polyethylene glycol it uses or how the two are joined.

Dosing
Community protocols cluster at 200 to 400 mcg by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection two to three times a week. Reported doses run from 100 to 500 mcg. Users often split a single dose between both sides of the muscle they trained. Every figure in circulation comes from bodybuilding forums rather than from any study in a person.

Half-life
No half-life has been measured for this compound in any species. The bare uncoated peptide has never been measured either. The 48 to 72 hours that sellers quote rests on no measurement of anything.
Side effects
- Irritation and soreness at the injection site as the only commonly reported effect
- Local fullness or swelling that fades after stopping
- Fatigue after injection in some first-hand reports
- Water retention and headache appear mainly in seller copy rather than in first-hand reports
- No effect on a person has ever been recorded in a study because none has ever been run
How it works
PEG-MGF is a coated copy of the last 24 building blocks of a tail that muscle adds to insulin-like growth factor 1 after hard loading or damage. The full tail occurs in living tissue but the further cut that would release those 24 has never been seen in any system. The fragment people buy may therefore be a laboratory construct. It does not switch on the insulin-like growth factor receptor when tested head-on. The full parent protein does. One group reports these peptides raise how much of that receptor sits on the cell surface and that their effects vanish when it is blocked. Other groups report effects that survive without the receptor and no receptor of its own has ever been found. What the polyethylene glycol coating changes has never been measured in any species.
Research quality
No published study has given MGF or PEG-MGF to a person. The pegylated form has no published research of its own at all. The one peer-reviewed sentence describing it as an established reagent cites a paper that does not contain it. The evidence people point to belongs to the bare peptide and it is contested. Early work reported the peptide made muscle cells multiply and held back their maturing. A later industry replication found no effect while mature insulin-like growth factor 1 worked in the same cells. Those authors questioned whether the peptide has any role in the body. The most quoted result in circulation is a 25 percent gain in mouse muscle fiber size in three weeks. That came from inserting the gene rather than from injecting the peptide. A 2026 review places PEG-MGF in its lowest evidence tier.
Warnings
- Avoid this peptide with any active or suspected cancer because the fragment sold as MGF roughly doubled the growth of human prostate cancer cells in the laboratory at a concentration an injected dose could plausibly reach
- Anti-doping authorities name mechano growth factors on the prohibited list and ban them at all times in and out of competition
- Laboratories analyzing gray-market MGF have always found a modified peptide rather than the natural sequence and have never confirmed polyethylene glycol in anything sold as PEG-MGF
- Watch for low blood sugar when this is combined with IGF-1 or insulin because it raises how much insulin-like growth factor receptor sits available on the cell surface
- Every dose in circulation is guesswork because no published study has given this compound to a person
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding rule it out because no human safety data exist
