Pinealon common uses, half-life, side effects and more
About
Pinealon is a synthetic tripeptide with the sequence Glu-Asp-Arg, also called EDR. It is one of a family of very short peptides promoted by a single Russian research group for brain aging. People take it for focus, memory, and longevity goals. The institute that developed it sells it in Russia as a food supplement rather than a medicine, in capsule and under-the-tongue form. Western sellers ship a powder to inject. That is a use the maker never intended and no study has tested. No regulator has approved it as a medicine anywhere. Nobody has run a controlled human trial of it.

Dosing
The one clean human dose is the oral capsule the maker sells. It is 100 micrograms twice a day for two weeks in a single Russian occupational report that gave Pinealon alone. Injected doses circulate from 0.1 to 2 milligrams a day and higher. None of them traces to a study of any kind. The sites that list them cite nothing and disagree with each other. Animal studies injected 10 micrograms per kilogram into rats and 400 micrograms per kilogram into mice. Both went into the abdomen rather than under the skin. No human dose-finding study has ever been run.

Half-life
Nobody has measured how long Pinealon lasts in the blood of any species. No pharmacokinetic study of it exists. The peptide carries an unprotected amino acid at each end that common blood enzymes remove. A dose likely breaks down fast. Nobody has measured whether it does.
Side effects
- No side effect has been recorded in a person taking Pinealon by itself because no such study exists
- A small human study of it combined with another peptide reported prooxidant activity and lower blood-cell precursors
- An eight-week mouse screen at a high dose found no change in blood counts or weight
- Most published studies measured only benefits and never looked for harm
How it works
Pinealon is a three-amino-acid peptide. Its developers propose that it enters the cell nucleus and binds specific DNA sequences to switch genes on and off. That is an unusual claim for so short a peptide. The list of genes it supposedly targets comes from computer modeling against DNA rather than from any test in a living cell. The one independent group to study the binding found that the peptide clings to DNA by simple electric charge rather than reading a specific sequence the way a gene switch must. The developers' own paper concedes that the known ways of recognizing a DNA sequence do not apply to a peptide this short and flexible. Studies from the same group report lower reactive oxygen and more dendritic spines in cells and mice. Whether the intact peptide even reaches a cell after a dose is untested.
Research quality
The evidence comes almost entirely from one Russian institute and its regular collaborators. No independent laboratory free of ties to that group has confirmed any effect of Pinealon. The nearest exception is a clinic in another Russian city that used the commercial product in small uncontrolled comparisons. That is adoption of a product rather than confirmation of a mechanism. The journal carrying much of the work counts the compound's own developer among its editors. The mouse paper behind the dendritic-spine claim was corrected in 2025 because two images labeled as male and female animals were the same picture. No controlled human trial exists and the registry lists none. The one fully independent test was an unreviewed 2026 mouse screen that found a faint non-significant hint of better memory and nothing else.
Warnings
- Nobody has taken Pinealon in a controlled study and nothing is known about what it does in people
- A small study of it combined with another peptide found lower blood-cell precursors that no larger study has checked
- Whether Pinealon raises cancer risk is untested even though it promotes cell growth and blocks cell death in laboratory tissue
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding have no safety data and the one rat pregnancy study tested protection against a toxin rather than the peptide's own safety
- Combining it with other brain-active drugs or peptides has no studied interactions
- Anti-doping rules do not name it but the catch-all clause for unapproved substances reaches it because Russia registers it as a supplement rather than a medicine
